Lena's first days in New York had certainly been a rollercoaster. Her first day had been a definite highlight, and had reassured her that things in New York might not be so bad after all and everything was going to be alright. That was until this day came rolling around. This day had been a rollercoaster of itself, it had started awful, then gone to good the second Nate had stepped onto her doorstep, then it had gone to sucking again when she ended up in the principal's office and then it reached it's all time low when she had ended up arguing with Nate over her fight. Thankfully that all had ended soon enough, though the part with her ending in tears was something she was hoping to forget about soon. "Wow El, inviting me back to your place two night's in a row? I think you liiiike me." he had said. Of course Lena's first reaction was to blush, before she nudged his arm, as she started to head up to the exit. "I'm thinking you might be right."
she had replied, glancing over her shoulder, giving him a quick wink. Thankfully this walk to her house had gone without any rain and Nate had even resisted to urge to hug his fiancé lamppost again. Thinking about yesterday's events managed to bring a smile on her face, even if it did hurt a little. Opening the door, she instantly lead him into the living room again. "I'll be right back.. looking.. prettier." she had grinned, putting her guitar down. "You can grab yourself something to drink if you want. Feel free to raid the fridge." she said, wanting to him to feel at home, while she rushed up the stairs into her bedroom, looking into the mirror her eyes widened slightly, gross. Lena quickly slipped out of the dress, freshening herself up to get rid of the stench, before changing into some black sweatpants, white tanktop and a purple zip up hoodie. With a brush she managed to control the mess in her hair somewhat. She still didn't look quite dashing or whatever, but at least she would be comfy now. Heading down the stairs, she stopped in the kitchen first, grabbing an icepack and holding it to her lip, as she walked back into the living room. "You still sure you want to teach me?" she asked, her voice somewhat muffled by the icepack. The two could have easily practiced back in the auditorium at school, but Lena preferred her home. Perhaps it was just an excuse to be closer to Nate or something, but seriously, the mashed potatoes were getting to her and she just wanted to escape school. She didn't want to see the people staring at her, or catch up on any of the gossip. Thinking about it, Lena was pretty sure she should avoid school altogether, but unfortunately for her, that wasn't an option. Lena only hoped Jenna would go easy on her, rather than grounding her or something, which would definitely mean less time with Nate. The past two days for Nate had been different. Very different. School had started, and this brought out the feelings Nate had never experienced before. Lena was the new girl at school, at Nate had been lucky enough to befriend her after school one day. Sure Nate had had his crushes before, but never had he been able to talk to them before. He'd always suffer in silence; let the butterflies roam as she walked past him in the corridor. And yet here he was, walking his latest crush down the street back to her house, for the second night in a row. Nate hadn't been able to reply, when she suggested she liked him, with a wink. He was too choked up at the thought, and so followed her out of the auditorium like a puppy dog.
Nate smirked as they walked past the lamppost. Long story short; last night he'd basically declared his love for it and told Lena that they were engaged. Yeah.. As she led him to the living room and told him to get whatever he wanted from the fridge he nodded, then frowned when she said she was going to get herself looking pretty. He laughed at this, pretty? Lena could wear a binbag and she'd look pretty in his eyes. But she was already gone before he could say anything. He placed his guitar down on the couch along with his backpack, before heading into the kitchen to grab a bottle of water. He then returned back to the living room and sat down on the couch after pushing his belongings to the side. Thinking back to last night's past events, a smile formed on his face. Nothing had been awkward since then; they'd joked, and argued, but no awkwardness. Thank god, he didn't want it to ever be like that with Lena, he always wanted it to be comfortable. So far so good.
As she returned from changing, he couldn't help but laugh at the fact she had an ice pack on her lip. He quickly covered it up with a cough. Why was he even laughing? She was blatantly hurt; I guess he just wished he could have been there to see this girl fight. It would have been an experience. Nonetheless he reached over and grabbed his guitar, unzipping it from it's case. "Well yeah, I'm up for it still if you are," he said casually, whilst resting the guitar on his lap. And yes he was up for it. When he returned home last night, he'd spent quite a while coming up with the right song to start her up on. He'd listened to it a few times, before writing out the chords. He didn't exactly want her to know he'd put in so much effort and then think he was desperate, so didn't write it out by hand. When he was a bit younger, he'd saved up some of his allowance, and invested in some computer software that you can write up music sheets on, so you used that, and was planning on playing it off as 'oh, I got it off the internet', when in fact he'd spent quite a while writing it down then typing it up. He waited for her to grab her guitar and take a seat opposite him.

It was weird to admit it, but even after two days Lena knew she had strong feelings for Nate, as in more than friendly feelings. Well obviously, she wouldn't have kissed him if she didn't feel something for him. It wasn't normal for her to fall for someone so fast, normally it took her a while to open up to people, but with him, she had shared pretty much her entire life story with him in a day. It was crazy, she knew that, but it felt so right. And Lena had decided that if something felt so right, it couldn't possibly be a bad thing. Lena was fairly certain that Nate liked her too, he had been just as much into their kiss as she was. Sure he could be the kind of guy to make out with every girl they could get, but Nate didn't seem to be that kind of guy, which Lena liked. Thinking about it Lena liked everything about him, his eyes, his smile, his looks in general, he had been more than nice to her, he had a gift with music, he was intelligent and she could talk easily with him, never an uncomfortable moment between them.
Lena raised her brow when he coughed, when he saw her and she just knew it was because of this damn icepack. "Don't make fun of me. It's hard to even smile with a busted lip. Let alone kiss people."
she smirked, Lena was feeling in a particular flirtatious mood and she liked making this boy blush, it made him even more adorable, if that was actually possible. These two had gone way past the friendship lines, even if neither had admitted it. Lena had never been in a situation like this before with any of her other guy friends, this was just different, he was different. He made her feel better when she was down and at the simplest thing he'd manage to make a smile appear on her face. Chances were that Jenna would come home earlier today, since she had promised Lena they would eat together, so they could catch up on her school days. It made her slightly nervous, if Nate was still here by the time, she didn't want her to freak out or anything. Though admittedly her aunt was pretty cool. "I'm definitely still up for it." she said with a smile, sitting in a chair opposite him, tossing the icepack on the table, as she took her guitar out of her case and in to her hands, making sure she had enough distance from him, so she wouldn't hit him in the face with it. "What song will be playing today, teach?" she smiled, looking at him intently, hoping this time around she would actually learn something and maybe she would even know how to play a song by the end of it. Lena was feeling nervous too, she didn't want to look like a fool and screw this up, though she knew it wasn't going to be easy, but maybe if she focused and practiced enough, she might even be able to impress him. What she was looking forward to the most was playing with him, singing together and even doing a gig together sometime. It was odd how these two worked. They knew all the tintimate details about each other; they knew each others history. And yet all the smaller facts like 'favourite color' or when each other's birthday was, they had no idea. But that was just part of getting to know one another. Which Nate was looking forward to. And they had so many different things planned for one another, such as guitar lessons, shopping trip; singular, very important, and camping trips; in a tree house, no tent camping. Those added parts were on Nate's behalf. Hated shopping, and major spider issues. But after some joking around and bantering the two had settled this, which Nate was especially pleased about. And so, they had plenty of opportunites to get to know each other better.
He held his hands up in surrender when she accused him of making fun of her, "I didn't say anything, just coughed," he grinned back. Though his grin faltered quickly and was replaced with a blush when she brought up kissing. Was she teasing him? In two different ways anyway. One; for the kissing last night, of course he wasn't embarassed, but he said himself last night, he'dnever done anything like that before, and so didn't exactly know how it went. Well he did on his part, he found it amazing. But they never really spoke about it last night, he had to leave quite soon. Two; just general teasing, bringing him back to her place again and then saying no kissing. Not fair right? Nate laughed at that, these two weren't exactly like that. But then again, what were they? Friend's with benefits? Almost together? He didn't know. He didn't know how any of it worked. But he knew he wanted to get to know Lena a bit better before taking any other next step.
He smiled as she agreed to still being up for the guitar lessons, and she sat down opposite him. He watched as she got into position. Well at least she knew how to hold a guitar correctly, that was a start. "You said you had lessons before now right? So you know some of the chords yeah?" he asked briefly, when of course he remembered the details of the conversation very well. She had had lessons before, though never mentioned how far she got. "Uhm, you've heard of Hallelujah by Kate Voegele right?" he asked, of course there was Jeff Buckley's original, but Kate Voegele's version was a lot simpler, so he decided to start with that. "Well, I got her version off the internet last night, so we'll start with this," he lied when telling her; he'd written it all out himself. But still, he bent down going into his backpack, and pulling out the sheet music and putting it on the coffee table for Lena to see. He knew it already, so didn't need it to look out, so that was okay.

She smirked slightly when he put his hands up in defense, the smirk soon turned into a smile though when she noticed his blush, causing her to bite on her lower lip as she chuckled. "I was just joking."
she replied. Lena wasn't exactly sure what hadn't gotten into her, she wasn't normally one to tease. Then again, a lot of things had changed in her lately. Shortly after her parents died she had pretty much broken down, getting by on her own, barely even leaving the house. New York was a new chance, though Lena hadn't exactly been eager to take it before. After meeting Nate he just seemed to bring out a new side of her, one that hadn't really existed back in San Francisco. She wasn't sure what he was doing to her, but she liked it either way. Her friends would have gone crazy right now, telling her it was obvious what she was feeling, but they'd also warn her. Things had gone fast, she knew that, yet it didn't really bother her. "I should warn you that my aunt might be coming home early today.." she started, not really wanting him to be nervous, but she'd rather let him know ahead of time than surprise him with it. Either her aunt would be glad that she made a friend so fast or she was going to be surprised by the fact that it was a guy that was sitting on her couch. Lena reckoned it would be the first one, she'd make some chitchat, then leave them alone and when she had the chance to catch Lena alone, she would interrogate her, wanting to know 'everything'. She was much like her mother, well they were sisters after all. "Just for the record. If she does show up. Don't try to impress her anything. There's no need. Just be you and she'll love you." she added, hoping that might make him feel better. Though she had no idea if he would even be nervous, if he was anything like Lena.. he would be. Lena nodded her head. "I know how to read the notes and I can play a few chords, nothing too hard. And I've never really played a complete verse or something." she admitted, feeling slightly embarrassed. Well her teacher bailed on her after her second lesson, so it wasn't exactly her fault. And it did give her the chance to pick up on playing the piano, which she was very fond of as well. When he mentioned the song Lena got excited. She loved Kate Voegele, Lena wanted to be like her, play instruments and singing like that. "Of course I know the song." she said with an eager nod. Lena looked down at the sheet music he just took from his backpack. "How long did it take you to pick out a song?" she questioned, turning her head to look up at him for a second, before reading the notes and glancing at the words on the sheets with a small smile. "Alright, my mind's a bit foggy.." she admitted with a blush, as she looked up at him for help. She knew it would come back after she had found her chords again. There she went, biting down on her bottom lip again. He loved that, it was just something that he loved seeing her do. Not to sound creepy or anything, but wow, when she did that it drove him wild; making him even redder than before thinking about it in that way. But obviously he'd never admit that to her, so obviously, defense mechanism? Sarcasm. "So was I, I think the bust lip look really suits you," he said casusually, a straight face plastered on, "It brings out your.. eyes?" he added in a questioning tone, okay so he ruined it there. But then again, what could a bust lip possibly bring the better out of? He cleared his throat in embarassment, and turned to look down at his guitar.
And the nerves kicked in immediately. He could have to meet her aunt tonight. Lena's only living relative, well close relative he assumed. Therefore he had to make a good impression. Even if Lena insisted he be himself, he didn't think that was good enough personally. He gulped, and straightenedhimself in his seat, "Uhm, okay," he mumbled, "Do you think she'll be okay with me being here?" he questioned, slight worry in his eyes. Then again, they weren't doing anything wrong, he was only teaching her a song on the guitar right? Not like they were terrorising her house, or makign out on her couch or anything. He blushed at the thought, they had been last night though. He wondered for a bit, on whether Lena's aunt even knew who he was. He didn't know if as soon as her Aunt showed up they'd spoken about him or anything. Whether that thought comforted him or not, he didn't know.
He nodded as she told him what she knew when it came to the guitar. She knew a few chords and she could read music. Which he already knew; she was playing the piano the first time he saw Lena. But as for the chords on the guitar, he smiled, at least he was starting completely from scratch. "Okay, well this song is more about the plucking of strings, rather than strumming," he told her, "Think of it as pressing down the keys on a piano," he suggested. He smiled over at her when she said she knew the song, that was good. At least she could naturally feel where the song was going too. Maybe he'd get to hear her voice again, if she got lost in the music. "Uhm, not that long," he said with a shrug, "I knew it was an easy song to play, since it was one of the first I started playing, so yeah," he added. It was true, he knew she'd be able to pick it up quite fast. "I would suggest that I could play it for you first? But I don't want to put you under pressure to be as amazing as me," he said with a grin on his face. He didn't really know where to start when it came to teaching, so he decided to go for the copying method. "Okay, so I'll play the first few chords, and you play them back to me," he said. He paused slightly, making sure she was watching, before playing the first chords on the sheet. Luckily the song was quite repetitive, and so it wouldn't take too long to learn.

It was a good thing Lena was seated opposite him, her hands preoccupied by her guitar. Cause otherwise she would have sworn she would have ruffled his hair or something. It was ironic, he wasn't even trying to impress her or whatever and he had no idea what he was doing to her. Just by blushing and making comments like that. Most guys would have pulled out all sorts of tricks to make a good impression on her. But he had just been himself, or he was an extremely good actor, and he was making her heart skip a bit by doing the simplest things, without even trying. "Does that mean you're suggesting that I should get into a fight every day now, to keep my lip like this?"
she questioned, a small grin on her lips. "Hmm and just when I was thinking my eyes were my best feature." she added, pretending to be disappointed by his comment. Lena instantly recognised the worry in his eyes. "Jenna is pretty cool. She'll like you. Trust me. You have nothing to worry about." she reassured him. She wasn't sure what to expect her aunt to say when she walked in though. She technically didn't even know that Nate existed, since she had come in so late last night, Lena had already been asleep and this morning Lena let her aunt sleep in, so she had yet to talk to her after yesterday. "I'm sure she won't mind. I like you and if I do, so will she." she replied. "And if it all goes wrong we can always pretend you're just my guitar teacher." she joked, though she had no intention of doing so. Even if her aunt were to dislike him. Then Lena would try her best to make her see what Lena had seen in him all along.. Except maybe of the part where she actually liked him, liked him. Plucking the strings.. like pressing the keys on the piano. "I can do that.... I think" she said with a nod of her head, as her eyes were still focused on him. She smiled when he said it hadn't taken him that long to think of the song. "Who taught you how to play anyways?" she asked, wondering if he had actually had lessons, or whether he was so talented that he learned it all by himself. She let out a soft laugh, followed by a soft wince to his words. "I doubt I'll ever be as good as you anyways. So I think I'll survive." she replied, shaking her head slightly. She may be better than him at playing the piano.. or maybe not even, she had never heard him play. But she would never beat him at playing the guitar. She watched his movements closely as he played the chords. She swallowed slightly nervously, as she looked down at her sheets of music, before playing the same melody.. except she messed up on the last chord. "Shoot... sorry." she mumbled, a light blush on her cheeks. Lena getting into a fight on a regular basis? He found that hard to believe, and so rolled his eyes, "One minute you're on type of girl, now you want to be the school bully?" he mocked, "Make your mind up Lena," he said, flashing a grin back at her. Then again, he loved the mystery she brought. He never knew what she'd give him next. Not that she had like a bi-polar personality or anything. Just, she was surprising was all. He shook his head at her next comment, "Your hair is your best feature," he said calmly, then his eyes widened immediately; "Wait, no, not that your eyes aren't pretty too," he added quickly, "Just- ...uhm, I love your hair.. uhm that's all," he managed to stutter out after. Wow, talk about embarassing. He felt like he'd practically insulted her, and all he could do was stutter out an excuse. His eyes shot down tot he guitar in his hand, "Sorry," he mumbled downwards.
He nodded, trying to calm himself with her reassuring words. Easy for her to say, Jenna was family to her. To Nate she was someone he had to impress. Gulp. Then again, Lena would eventually have to do the same with Olivia right? She'd handled that thought pretty well right? He should just take this in his stride. He was good at meeting new people. Well, completely new people that is; not people that he was under pressure to look good with. I like you, and if I do, so will she. Surprisingly, these words relaxed him, rather than making him blush as usual. He'd done well with Lena right, and he'd only just met her yesterday. He could do this right. "Okay, yeah sure, I can meet Jenna," he said, with somewhat forced confidence. He laughed at her next words, at least they had excuse, "Thanks for having faith in me," he mocked, with a shake of the head, he added a smirk on the end just to make sure she knew he was joking.
He nodded with a smile, she looked nervous. He hoped she didn't feel under pressure to do well in front of him. Maybe she was just pressuring herself though, what with doing so well in school, she seemed determined nonetheless. "Oh uhm, I taught myself," he said casually, ike it wasn't a big deal. To him, it really wasn't. He wanted to play the guitar since a kid, and so saved up to buy a guitar himself, and then just learnt how to play. Learning to read music was difficult at first; he got a little help from Olivia there, since she had had piano lessons. But otherwise, all by himself. He was proud of that. He smiled towards her again, "You will be, I'll make sure of it," he informed her, "You are learnign from the best after all," he joked with a grin. He watched as she repeated his movements, with a small mistake at the end, but who cared right? It was her first time and everyone makes mistakes. He shrugged it off, "Nothing to apologise for," he smield at her. He was glad she was somewhat reading the notes too, and so she could learn the song, and not just copying him. "Kay, next bit," he said, playing the next bit, ready for her to repeat.

When he mocked her, she fought the urge to stick out her tongue, but instead she shot him a quick fake glare, before laughing. "Fine.. maybe my fate as the school bully is a bit beyond my reach.."
she said, pretending to be disappointed that she'd probably never get that title. Now, if any guy but Nate had just said those words to her, she would have probably scolded them. But Nate had a way of saying it and making it look utterly adorable, she knew he hadn't meant it as an insult to her. She was actually surprised by how blunt he had been though. The embarrassment could be read all over his face, which made her feel a little bad for him, so she gave him a small smile. "Don't worry about it." she said. "At least someone appreciates the time I put into this mess every morning." she chuckled, running a hand through her hair. Lena found her hair awful, in the way that it was just a lot of work, it was long and thick, so washing it was a job of itself and then there's the part that she had to actually get a comb through it. She knew a shorter cut would make her life so much either, but she was scared to cut it.. besides she had made a promise to Nate after all. Nate had come off as a social guy to Lena, so she was pretty sure he was going to charm her aunt. How could she not like him? And the fact that he had been the only true friend she had made so far should give him some bonus points too. She understood that he felt the pressure to make a good impression. Lena felt the same way with Olivia. Him and Olivia were a lot closer than Lena and her aunt. If Jenna didn't like Nate, she'd still hang out with him, even if that would get her in trouble. Jenna would never make her pick between her friends or anything though, she wasn't the type to do that. She barely even had any rules set for Lena. "Hey, I have total faith in you. In fact I'm scared she might steal you and make you her friend." she joked. The thought of that was rather disturbing to Lena. Then again chances of that happening were small. Jenna did miss her own son, so she might start treating him like one.. but that only meant she would like him, so Lena couldn't argue with that. As she long as she didn't start babying him that was. Lena's eyebrows raised, as she was clearly impressed by the fact he had taught himself how to play. Lena found it more than admirable, it was ambitious and just totally awesome, he must have had a lot of patience to pull that off. "That is really amazing." she replied with a smile, she was sure admiration was showing in her eyes right now. Lena had taught herself how to read the notes and such, but she had learned a lot of her musical knowledge through the few piano lessons she had, though she actually learned most of it on her own. Piano lessons were expensive and so were piano's, so she didn't have that many lessons. "Well that might be true. But I'm afraid the guitar isn't my natural talent. So you better be patient with me." she chuckled softly. She did believe she was being taught by the best, but she didn't want to become his rival or something, she'd lose that battle. She smiled and nodded her head, forgetting about the mistake and watching him again, before moving her eyes to the sheets before her, playing the same bit, actually without a glitch this time, causing her smile to grow a little. He nodded in agreement, Lena the class bully? Never going to happen. In fact, he wondered what her 'clique' had been back in California. Maybe she'd come over here with a mind-set to change her reputation, a clean slate. Nate had tried to do this himself when he moved to New York, but he couldn't be anything other than himself. He wanted to be outspoken, be known to have a relatively confident personality. But he was set in his ways, he couldn't reveal himself anymore than normal. He was just Nate. He was still embarassed about the hair/eyes incident so blushed again. Honestly, he couldn't believe she put too much time into her hair, it'd look perfect no matter what, "Yes, your hair is very much appreciated," he replied with a shy smile. That comment sounded creepy, there was no getting out of it. How does one even appreciate hair? To be fair, in the past two days he had been gazing at her hair, and smelling it; was that appreciating it? Well it had to be.
Her comment made Nate laugh. Lena's Aunt Jenna steal him off her? That was unlikely. Sure Nate can be charming and friendly, but his nerves were probably going to get the better of him. This wasn't like meeting a new teacher, or someone like that; this was someone you had to impress in order to stay friend's with someone else. You had to get their approval. And wait; steal him? Did that mean did that mean she felt close enough to have an 'own' on him? Not in a creepy, possessive way; but well the thoguht was comforting. He'd obviously made a great impression on Lena herself. "I promise you'll be my favourite Vasquez," he grinned at her. Though the thought that Lena thought Jenna would like him was nice, he still worried a little. Was Jenna the type to completely baby him? Or anything along those lines? Cause he definitely wouldn't feel comfortable at that thought. It would remind him of his own mother too much. He hoped she'd just stay on friendly adult territory.
He blushed at her compliment. Sure he was proud of his achievement, but he didn't like to boast about it. Thanks," he smiled in reply, "How about you and the piano?" he asked. So far he knew she'd had a few guitar lessons, in which the teacher dropped her as soon as possible. He shook his head at the thought. What teacher drops a student even if they were a little slower than others? Surely teaching was all about patience, which Nate was surprising himself at right now. He had little to no patience, and yet here he was teaching Lena. On the other hand, Lena was doing pretty well, so he wondered why the teacher had scarpered. His eyes widened at her words; patience. Had she just been reading his mind? He smiled nonetheless, "I promise to be patient," he replied, almost as if he was telling himself. He watched her repeat his movements, "Good," he commented, giving her an encouraging smile. He looked at the music to check, "And you see, this is why I picked this song, cause it just repeat's itself, mixing itself up with some chords, but the main jist is the same throughout," he explained, "So let's do the next chord series, and then we'll put it together?" he suggested with a smile. He was glad he'd chosen this song, it'd give her confidence.
